Michael Owen scored 163 league goals in 363 league appearances across his five clubs, with his overall goal tally (all competitions) sitting higher once cup and European games are included. He wore the number 10 shirt for most of his career, both at club level and for England.
Club-by-club record
His most prolific spell came at Liverpool, where he twice topped the Premier League scoring charts before injuries began to affect his later years at Newcastle. At Manchester United he played a squad role but scored a memorable last-minute Manchester derby winner in 2009.
England record
Owen made his England debut in 1998 and went on to earn 89 caps, scoring 40 goals — 26 of them in competitive fixtures, a national record at the time of his retirement from international football. He represented England at three World Cups: 1998, 2002 and 2006, scoring four goals across those tournaments. He remains one of the youngest players ever to appear for England at a World Cup finals.
