Free transfer to Old Trafford
Following his release by Newcastle United, Owen signed for Manchester United on a free transfer in the summer of 2009, taking on a squad role as backup and impact option in a forward line led by Wayne Rooney.
The Manchester derby winner
Owen's best-remembered United moment came in September 2009, when he scored a stoppage-time winner against Manchester City in the Manchester derby — a goal still replayed regularly as one of the most dramatic derby finishes of the era.
Premier League title
Owen was part of the Manchester United squad that won the Premier League title in 2010–11, adding a league championship medal to his collection of major honours. He left the club at the end of his contract in 2012, joining Stoke City for what would be his final season as a player.
