Football punditry
Since retiring in 2013, Owen has worked steadily as a football pundit and commentator, analysing Premier League and international matches for British broadcasters and offering regular match-day opinions and predictions on social media.
Business interests
Away from the microphone, Owen runs Manor House Stables, his racehorse breeding and training operation, and Michael Owen Management, a football agency representing young players. He has also written three autobiographies and made occasional entertainment TV appearances — see his TV appearances.
Punditry criticism
Owen's understated commentary style has occasionally made him a target for online mockery, with some critics accusing him of stating the obvious on air. He has pushed back publicly against some of this criticism, and former teammates such as Wayne Rooney have defended him as one of the more genuinely funny people in the game away from the cameras.
